Ellendale Neighborhood Board

November 10th, 2008

A very informative meeting which included reports from the Board as well as updates on Animal House, a project planned for Ellendale Park.
Animal House is a project initiated by Jim Shrewsbury while in office and now a civic project involving private donations and led by Ed Throop, former Chairman of the Board for the Humane Society of Missouri.  A representative from the initiative gave an update on the project which appears to be well planned and supported by the entire Ellendale Neighborhhood. The project includes restructuring of Ellendale Park to improve the park and add a new animal shelter to replace the current facility on Gasconade. I am in favor of this project for many reasons and encourage donations if it's in your budget. Ellendale Park's playground is in dire need of improvements. The graffiti is a constant nuisance and the fencing is in need of repair. Establishing a facility in this area will contribute to the improvement of the park itself and provide some stability for that corner area. Another option along with the Animal House Facility would be a police substation on the premises.

From the web site:

The Animal House Fund, Inc. is a private, nonprofit organization raising
$4 million in cash and in-kind contributions toward the building of a new, state-of-the-art, environmentally-responsible animal care facility. Once funding is secured, the Animal House Fund will construct the new facility and hand the keys over to the City of St. Louis upon completion. Once constructed, this new facility will be the first City operated green building in the City of St. Louis.

Kudos to the Ellendale Neighborhood Association for their dedication to improving city living!
If you have not attended an Association Meeting, I encourage you to do so. Here you will discover residents who are proactive about their concerns and dedication to the City of St. Louis.
