November Meeting 2008
This evening included information presented by Charles Bryson, Director of Public Safety for the City of St. Louis.
Mr. Bryson serves the public through many agencies in our city. He is responsible for the welfare of the citizens and spoke of his concerns that participation Neighborhood / Block Organizations are declining. These organizations foster knowing your neighbors which often leads to a greater sense of responsibility to your neighborhood. People you live by are no longer strangers.
I would like to see this program regain momentum, particularly in a time where criminal activity is heightened by the poor economy. I've noticed an increase of minor vandalism such as things stolen from my porch and some serious vandalism at Lindenwood Park. These organizations belong in our neighborhoods and need to be reignited!
We also heard from the board that they were seeking nominations for spots on their CHNA Board.
Joe Gunn from Gunn Realty was present to share information on the Office / Retail Space at Arsenal and Clifton. They are looking for tenants and interested parties should contact Gunn Realty @ 314 966-4762 or www.gunnrealtyadvisors.com.
The site looks fantastic.
Final discussion were about the dead fish in the pond, results soon to come, and the CHNA Scholarship for high school seniors. I am particularly impressed with the scholarship funding and applaud Josh Wiese for his efforts. This particular scholarship is $150.00 to recognize high school seniors or current college students and will be directly awarded to the college of their choice. Applications are available through the association. This is a generous way to applaud the educational efforts of students in their neighborhood.
